Knight of the Living Dead

Battle in the Weeping Briar town square

As Raastred and Tarak move to engage the two figures attacking the prone figure the rest of the party notices several more figures appearing from different streets around the square. The party quickly finds itself locked in battle with eight different zombies.

Initially the battle goes pretty well, Raastred deals damage toe to toe with a zombie, but Tarak has less luck with the zombie he attacks throwing him across the square.

Meanwhile Mai-sal and Eldon split their time dealing with a flying zombie, and several zombie minion’s.

The battle is a close one, with Tarak and Raastred both coming very close to unconsciousness. But in the end with some quick healing on Eldon’s part the party survives and defeats the zombies.

Raastred approaches the prone figure only to find that it’s a fresh corpse, and even worse it appears to be infected with a Rot Gut Swarm!

The Swarm attacks, and seems to be resilient to melee and ranged attacks, only area and burst attacks seem to be effective. With everyone attacking the swarm the battle is short, but not before Raastred finds himself on the edge of unconciousness.

As the party finishes off the swarm Mai-sal notices a small figure watching the battle from one of the stalls in the market…

The Town of Weeping Briar
Weeping Briar

The town of Weeping Briar is a sleeply little hamlet, made up of squat one and two story buildings with a distinct dwarven style. The town is constructed in a rough circular pattern with a wide squat wall around the outer edge, just inside the wall is a stretch of open ground, then a ring of houses. Inside the ring of houses is the village’s main square. At the very center is a tall fountain from wich the locals gather there fresh drinking water. Around the edges of the square are a large stone mill, an old inn, a open market, a black smith, a livery stables, and what looks to be the village lords home. The main streets are made of warn cobles, and the side streets packed earth. The rain has turned them into mud puddles and bogs making the train both slippery and difficult.

The streets appear to be deserted, not a sole in sight. No lights come from the windows, and the lamps are all out. In the distance you can hear a door creek, and some shutters banging against a wall, lightning crashes, and on the wind… is that a moan?

The party desides to explore a bit, initially checking out the livery stables. Mai-Sal being the most stealthy of the party creeps inside and finds evidence of a recent strugle, there’s a small table in the main room with a chair over turned and a few plates and cups strewn across the ground. There is a candle holder on the table but the candle has burned itself out. All the stalls are empty and there is nobody home.

Next the party sends Mai-Sal to explore the inn. Inside she finds evidence of a fight. Tables are over turned, bottles have been smashed, and there is what looks like blood on the floor. Again there is no sign of anyone any where in the building.

Once outside the party notices two figures crouching over a third figure prone on the ground, through the rain and darkness it’s hard to tell, but it seems like the standing figures may be attacking the prone figure.

The Weeping Briar Cemetery

As you approach the clearing it becomes apparent that it is in fact a cemetery, you notice several graves that appear to be recently disturbed, the ground is churned up, with gapping holes in the centers, splinters of wood strewn all around. When you peer into the graves you see that they are quickly filling with water. Suddenly you hear a noise from a nearby grave, and as you turn to look you see a hand emerge from the lommy ground.

The party finds itself attacked by waves of zombies emerging from the ground. The group is quickly surrounded but working together manages to defeat the zombies.

Several of the zombies do manage to rise again, leading the party to dismember the corpses and spread the parts through out the cemetery. IT’s agreed that if it wasn’t raining so hard the group would burn the bodies.

The group agreas to head into town hopping to find shelter, food, and some answers.

Encounter at the Cross Roads
Our adventures meet

The rain pours down darkening the night, pierced only by an occasional flash of meanecing lightning.

On the outskirts of the Town of Weeping Briar, at lonely crossroads two adventures fight for there lives.

Eldon and Tarak (two strangers traveling the Kings Road together) spy several figures through the rain, they appear to be locked in some sort of struggle. As they approach you realize that two adventures (Mai-sal and Raastred) are locked in combat with a shambling pair of figures. Eldon and Tarak rush to there aid.

After you dispatch the creatures Mai-sal explains that she had meet Raastred on the Kings road and had agreed to travel together, then the storm hit and they decided to make there way to Weeping Briar. Mai-Sal and Raastred had the town in sight when the creatures attacked them. The creatures appeared to have come from the nearby clearing.
